An Afternoon at Chatsworth

A visit to a splendrous stately home is always a good day out and they don't come much more stunning than Chatsworth. Based in the beautiful Peak District, Chatsworth House is home to intricate carvings and breathtaking artwork.

The sweeping staircase is every Instagrammer's dream! I contented myself with a mirror selfie though, wearing my Burberry trenchcoat for the occasion.

My favourite rooms of stately homes are always the library and the dining rooms. Just imagine sitting around that enormous table which is heaving with silverware, drinking out of the most perfect crystal and making conversation with the nobility of England! Or, if you prefer, Mr Darcy, since Chatsworth House was the inspiration for the grand estate of Pemberley, where Jane Austen's dashing romantic hero lived.

The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Chatsworth's current owners, have an extensive art collection and this love of art can be seen in the quirkier, more contemporary touches that they have added to the house over the years, like these twisted wooden dining chairs. (Very beautiful, but I'm not sure how comfortable.)

Of course I always have to finish a day out with a bit of cake, and is there anything more satisfying than chocolate fudge cake?

The bunting was also out at the cafe for St George's Day!
