It's finally here! We are officially now in Autumn (the first day of Autumn coincided with payday for me, which as you can imagine was dangerous) and the September heatwave here in the UK seems to be fizzling out. I'd already cleared out my wardrobe for Autumn and removed my summer clothes from the equation so I for one am actually quite glad that it's getting chillier!
Transitional dressing is easy in theory - just layer up, they say - but there's a knack to it. I like to change my colour palette in the A/W months, removing my blush pinks and bringing in deeper browns and gorgeous burgundies. I layer up, but I don't want it to just look like I've stuck a cardigan over my summer clothes.
One piece that I do love wearing all year around is my navy floral dress from Joules. I did wear this in the summer but I find it's particularly good in the transitional months, and my favourite way to wear this in Autumn is with a pair of opaque tights, block heeled ankle boots and a leather-look jacket. For warmer Autumn days, I skip the tights and wear a pair of heels or my over-the-knee boots instead.
If you like this dress, Joules have brought it back this year in a forest green hue.
My midi skirts can easily be transitioned in the same way, with a light knit tucked into them or a cardigan over one of my camis that I would have worn alone in the hotter months. I would highly recommend adding a midi skirt to your collection if you haven't already as they are extremely versatile and work for all seasons.
